Health Groups Want Deadline For Long-Stalled Device Rules

Law360, New York (June 4, 2012, 5:43 PM EDT) -- As it finalizes a bill funding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Congress should order the White House to unveil long-delayed rules that would enhance the tracking and safety of medical devices, an alliance of medical groups said in a letter to lawmakers Monday.

The FDA legislation, which primarily concerns fees levied on pharmaceutical firms and device makers, contains provisions related to a “unique device identification” system intended to alert doctors about recalled or defective equipment.
