Lawmakers Slam CMS Over Anti-Fraud Results

Law360, New York (June 08, 2012, 1:23 PM ET) -- Anti-fraud efforts at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services came under fire from all sides Friday on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers decried lackluster results but also chastised the agency for smothering medical providers with onerous regulations.

The criticism played out at a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing scrutinizing the work of so-called benefit integrity contractors that CMS hires to detect and recoup improper payments.
