Australia Blesses Rail Project For $6.4B Mine

Law360, New York (June 6, 2012, 3:05 PM EDT) -- The Australian state of Queensland on Wednesday greenlighted a proposal from India's GVK to build a nearly 311-mile rail link that will service its massive AU$6.4 billion (US$6.3 billion) Alpha Coal Project and third parties' Galilee Basin mining operations.

Queensland will compulsorily acquire land for GVK's new north-south rail line, as well as for an east-west line proposed by QR National Ltd., according to a parallel statements the state government and the Indian power and infrastructure conglomerate issued Wednesday.
