ITC Extinguishes Cigarette Paper Wrapper Investigation

Law360, New York (June 6, 2012, 3:13 PM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission on Tuesday snuffed out its investigation into certain self-extinguishing cigarette paper wrappers, issuing a final determination that German manufacturers had not violated two U.S. patents.

The ITC originally lodged its investigation in January 2011 after receiving a complaint filed by Schweitzer-Mauduit International Inc. of Alpharetta, Ga., that alleged its competitors were ripping off its intellectual property covering reduced ignition propensity cigarette papers, according to a notice from the ITC.
