Study Details Fuel Overcharges By Railroads

Law360, New York (September 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Five of the nation's biggest railroad companies have overcharged customers by more than $6.4 billion through a system of fuel overcharges, according to a new study commissioned by a coalition of businesses, utilities and rail customers pushing for rail reform.

The report, released on Thursday, said that the five railroads, Union Pacific Corp., CSX Corp., Norfolk Southern Corp., Kansas City Southern, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. consistently overcharged customers for fuel costs over a four-year period.
