Law360, New York (June 11, 2012, 4:22 PM ET) -- The European Commission may soon consider easing restrictions on the importation of unapproved genetically modified food, a spokesman said Monday.
Commission spokesman Frederic Vincent said the draft rules could be proposed before the EU's summer break in order to give time for European governments and lawmakers to approve them before the end of the year. The European Union currently has a zero-tolerance policy toward genetically modified foods that have not been approved for use in the region.
