House Dems Ask FCC, DOJ To Probe Verizon Spectrum Buy

Law360, New York (June 13, 2012, 7:30 PM EDT) -- A group of Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday urged the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission to investigate Verizon Wireless' plan to spend $3.9 billion on spectrum purchasing deals with cable companies, saying it may harm competition and consumers.

Reps. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., and John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., joined by five other House Democrats, sent letters to DOJ and the FCC asking the agencies to look into Verizon's planned buyup of "a rarely available block of nationwide spectrum" to see whether it runs...
