Travel Sites Deny Liability For $60M In SF Hotel Taxes

Law360, Los Angeles (June 13, 2012, 9:31 PM EDT) -- Attorneys for Inc., Expedia Inc. and other online travel sites argued in California court Wednesday that they aren't liable for nearly $60 million in hotel occupancy taxes assessed by San Francisco because they merely book reservations and don't run the hotels.

The companies, which also allow users to research other travel accommodations, cannot be held liable for San Francisco's hotel occupancy taxes because they do not operate the hotels, are not responsible for the hotels' daily operations and the fees they collect from their customers...
