CMS Floats Rule On Coverage Beyond Insurance Settlements

Law360, New York (June 15, 2012, 4:51 PM EDT) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Thursday spelled out tentative guidelines for patients seeking to have Medicare pay for future medical treatment exceeding coverage by auto insurance and workers' compensation plans.

The proposed rules, published in the Federal Register, relate to situations in which Medicare is the secondary payer for individuals covered by automobile insurance, no-fault insurance or workers' compensation.
