Senate Bill Seeks End To Cramming, Pushes FCC To Action

Law360, New York (June 14, 2012, 2:32 PM EDT) -- A newly introduced piece of legislation designed to prevent the "cramming" of unwanted charges on telephone bills will go a long way to protect consumers from billing fraud, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation said on Thursday.

The Fair Telephone Billing Act of 2012, introduced to the Senate on Wednesday by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., seeks to ban the inclusion of unauthorized third-party charges on landline telephone bills while also encouraging regulators to enact similar restrictions on wireless bills.
