Law360, Los Angeles (June 14, 2012, 7:39 PM ET) -- The Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday approved an $880 million restoration plan to improve overall water quality in the Everglades, authorizing the operation of a 57,000-acre stormwater treatment area.
The South Florida Water Management District, the state agency spearheading Everglade cleanup efforts, said the 12-year project will improve the natural balance of flora and fauna in the wetlands south of Lake Okeechobee. Federal approval of the project comes after the district submitted revised permits on June 6 outlining cleanup measures.
