EU Targets $1.9B UMG-EMI Combo Over Antitrust Worries

Law360, New York (June 19, 2012, 4:20 PM EDT) -- The European Union has filed a formal objection to Universal Music Group's proposed $1.9 billion purchase of EMI Group Ltd.’s recorded music unit amid competition concerns for the music industry, a representative for UMG said Tuesday.

The representative confirmed UMG had received a statement of objections from the European Commission, months after the regulator opened its investigation of the potential deal. The representative characterized the commission's worries as part of a “customary process when considering mergers.”
