Internet Video Data Caps Hurt Competition, Lawmakers Told

Law360, New York (June 27, 2012, 3:28 PM EDT) -- Broadband providers' ability to limit customers’ access to streaming video offered by their rivals poses a competition threat, a representative for Internet openness advocate Public Knowledge told lawmakers Wednesday.

Public Knowledge President and CEO Gigi B. Sohn said in a hearing before the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology that discriminatory bandwidth caps that allow cable companies that also provide Internet service to limit customers' access to online streaming services should be examined by regulators.
