Melvyn Weiss Indicted Over Kickback Scam

Law360, New York (September 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Class action attorney Melvyn Weiss was indicted by a grand jury Thursday on charges stemming from the client kickback scandal that has rocked the New York law firm he helped found more than 40 years ago.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles released a statement late Thursday confirming the second superseding indictment that charges Weiss and the firm, Milberg Weiss LLP, with receiving $250 million in attorneys' fees from securities lawsuits in which it made secret payments to named plaintiffs.
