Reid Fights Power Plants With Renewable Energy Bill

Law360, New York (September 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who is opposing three proposed coal-fired power plants in his home state, introduced a bill Thursday that would require energy companies to transmit more of their power from renewable sources.

The bill, known as the Clean Renewable Energy and Economic Development Act, would limit federal financing for new high-voltage transmission lines to those that carry at least 75% renewable electricity. That same limitation would also apply to any lines built across federal lands.
