Chief Justice Re-Joins Stoneridge Securities Case

Law360, New York (September 21, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts has un-recused himself from a case that will decide whether private lawsuits can be brought against third-party companies that aided a different company’s securities fraud.

When the Supreme Court decided in March to hear the case, which pits Stoneridge Investment Partners LLC against Scientific-Atlanta Inc. and Motorola Inc., both Roberts and Justice Stephen Breyer recused themselves from the decision.

Both own stock in Cisco Systems Inc., the parent company of Scientific-Atlanta.
