CDC May Have Encouraged Illegal Lobbying: HHS OIG

Law360, New York (July 11, 2012, 2:44 PM EDT) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may have inadvertently encouraged illegal lobbying funded by millions of dollars in health grants issued under the stimulus bill and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to correspondence released Wednesday by a government watchdog agency.

The June 29 memo, which scrutinized money given to state and municipal agencies for anti-obesity and anti-tobacco campaigns, found that the CDC issued contradictory guidance on how the cash could be used to effect legal change.
