GM Strike To Test Union Mettle: Lawyers

Law360, New York (September 25, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The massive strike that shut down General Motors Corp. this week will put the strength of organized labor in the United States to the test, lawyers say.

On Monday, 73,000 United Auto Workers members at about 80 GM facilities in the U.S. walked off the job, citing concerns over job security, economic issues and benefits for active members.

The nation’s largest auto maker has been locked in daily discussions with the UAW since before the union's contract with GM expired Sept. 14.
