DC Circ. Won't Halt $14B Southern Co. Nuclear Plant Expansion

Law360, New York (July 11, 2012, 6:46 PM EDT) -- The D.C. Circuit on Wednesday refused to block construction of a pair of new Southern Co. reactors at a Georgia power plant pending court review of an environmental suit against the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission over its approval of the $14 billion project.

A coalition of environmental organizations sought the order, arguing that allowing construction to move forward at this point could result in wasted money and fee hikes for rate payers in Georgia because any post-construction retrofits likely would be exorbitantly expensive.
