Legislative Panel Clears European Software Patent Bill

Law360, New York (June 18, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a victory for high-tech companies, a European Parliament committee has approved an ill-fated proposal to create a pan-European system for patenting software innovations.

Under the bill, cleared by the 26-member Legal Affairs Committee late Monday, patent holders will enjoy European Union-wide protection for high-tech inventions as long as they make a new technical contribution to further innovation in a particular field of technology.
