Mutual Benefits Trio Jailed For 5 Years

Law360, New York (September 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three people affiliated with defunct life settlement company Mutual Benefits Corp. have each been jailed for five years for their roles in a securities fraud scam that fleeced $826 million from thousands of investors.

The trio, Raquel Kohler, Ameer Khan and Stephen Ziegler, was sentenced by Florida District Court Judge Paul C. Huck on Monday, two months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with Mutual Benefits' billion-dollar offering. The five-year term was the maximum possible sentence they faced.
