EEOC Sues Logging Co. For Religious Discrimination

Law360, New York (September 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit against a major California forest owner and harvester, accusing it of discriminating against a Seventh Day Adventist who asked not to work on his Sabbath.

The EEOC filed its lawsuit on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court of Eastern California against Sierra Pacific Industries, the country's third largest land owner. It charges that the company fired an employee rather than grant him shifts that did not conflict with his religion.
