No Deadline For Medicaid Decision, CMS Tells Governors

Law360, New York (July 13, 2012, 3:56 PM EDT) -- As hospitals anxiously await state decisions on the health law's Medicaid expansion, a top federal official told governors on Friday that there was no deadline for them to make the decision and that they could keep federal funding for Medicaid upgrades even if they refused to expand.

Marilyn Tavenner, acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, answered a few of the more than 30 questions the Republican Governors Association sent to the administration earlier this week about Medicaid and insurance exchanges.
