Nationwide Statements Shake Up Fracking Coverage Debate

Law360, New York (July 16, 2012, 4:40 PM EDT) -- The recent leak of an internal memo at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. stressing that hydraulic fracturing-related damages are not covered by personal and commercial policies has suddenly entangled the insurer in a fierce debate over fracking and reignited discussions over fracking coverage.

After months of research and discussion, Nationwide concluded it was too uncomfortable with the unique risks associated with the controversial natural gas drilling method to provide coverage at a reasonable price.
