FDA Bans BPA In Baby Bottles, Sippy Cups

Law360, New York (July 17, 2012, 8:58 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration prohibited the use of bisphenol A in baby bottles and sippy cups on Tuesday, the same day it asked for public input on a proposed ban on the chemical in infant formula packaging.

The agency published a final rule in the Federal Register removing polycarbonate resins, which are composed, in part, of BPA, from the food additive regulations. The rule, a response to a petition filed by the American Chemistry Council, is effective immediately.
