Michael Jordan Battles Fee Award In Image Use Row

Law360, New York (July 17, 2012, 8:52 PM EDT) -- Michael Jordan on Tuesday asked an Illinois federal court to reject grocery chain Supervalu Inc.'s bid for attorneys' fees after it beat the basketball legend's $5 million suit claiming it used an unauthorized image of him in a magazine.

In a memorandum filed in the Northern District of Illinois, Jordan said awarding Supervalu its attorneys' fees would "saddle plaintiffs with a higher burden than the Illinois legislature intended" under the Illinois Right of Publicity Act, which Jordan said was adopted to protect the rights of individuals...
