Equinox, Personal Trainers Work Out Deal To End Wage Claims

Law360, Los Angeles (July 18, 2012, 3:38 PM EDT) -- Fitness club operator Equinox Holdings Inc. said Wednesday it had reached a preliminary settlement with a class of about 1,700 current and former personal trainers in California who accused the company of failing to pay for mandatory off-the-clock work.

Equinox allegedly required employees to spend extra time at the gym taking fitness classes, talking with customers and promoting the company. Employees were also required to design and hold client training sessions for which they received commissions but weren't paid regular wages, according to the lawsuit....
