Toyota Can't Delay Key Sudden Acceleration Trial

Law360, Los Angeles (July 19, 2012, 9:03 PM ET) -- A California judge on Thursday rejected Toyota Motor Corp.’s bid to delay a bellwether trial in consolidated litigation over unintended vehicle acceleration, saying a lawsuit brought by retired Los Angeles Police Department officer Michael Houlf will proceed to trial Nov. 1.

Barring unforeseen events, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Anthony J. Mohr’s ruling Thursday means an LA state court jury will hear claims that Toyota hid electronic throttle control system defects ahead of a bellwether trial in federal multidistrict litigation set for Feb. 2013.
