GAO Reviewing Toll Hikes On NY, NJ, Pa. Bridges

Law360, New York (July 20, 2012, 8:06 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office is examining whether toll increases on crossings between New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are consistent with the government mandates of the bistate transportation agencies behind those hikes, the federal watchdog said Friday.

The GAO is tackling the issue at the request of U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., a GAO spokesman said. Lautenberg has been an outspoken critic of recent toll increases implemented by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
