DreamWorks Pays $155M For 'Classic' TV, Movie Characters

Law360, New York (July 23, 2012, 9:43 PM EDT) -- DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. will plunk down $155 million for private equity-controlled Classic Media, bringing family movie empires “Shrek” and “Kung Fu Panda” under one roof with the likes of "Casper the Friendly Ghost" and "Lassie," the studio announced Monday.

The cash purchase dramatically expands California-based DreamWorks' brand portfolio, adding 450 film titles, more than 6,100 episodes of animated and live-action television programming, and the popular children's Little Golden Books library to its holdings, according to a statement from the animation studio.
