GOP Torches CMS Over $8.3B Medicare Advantage Bonuses

Law360, New York (July 25, 2012, 7:54 PM EDT) -- Republican lawmakers on Wednesday accused the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services of essentially campaigning for President Barack Obama by pursuing an $8.3 billion program they said unjustifiably rewards insurers to shield seniors from election-year cuts to Medicare Advantage.

The charges were leveled during a congressional hearing kicked off by remarks from Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who suggested CMS’ project is “in fact designed to offset Obamacare’s massive cuts to Medicare Advantage ahead of an election.”
