Russia Trade Normalization Bill Clears House Committee

Law360, New York (July 26, 2012, 1:24 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means on Thursday passed legislation aimed at normalizing trade relations with Russia, joining a Senate committee that recently did the same and helping pave the way for congressional approval before the country’s entry into the World Trade Organization next month.

By a majority vote, legislation was approved to remove Russia from the Cold War-era Jackson-Vanik amendment, a 1974 provision passed to punish the Soviet Union for human rights abuses, and to establish permanent normal trade relations with the country....
