8 Pharma Cos. To Pay $38M For Boosting La. Drug Prices

Law360, Washington (July 26, 2012, 1:57 PM EDT) -- Eight pharmaceutical companies including Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. and AstraZeneca PLC will pay Louisiana more than $38 million to settle claims that they charged the state's Medicaid program artificially inflated wholesale drug prices, the state attorney general's office announced Wednesday.

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell initially sued 109 pharmaceutical companies in two state suits, claiming the manufacturers violated the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act and the state's Medical Assistance Programs Integrity Law by misreporting pricing information, which was used to calculate Medicaid reimbursements....
