HHS Teams Up With Big-Name Insurers In Anti-Fraud Fight

Law360, New York (July 26, 2012, 3:54 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Thursday announced it's joining forces with leading health insurers including UnitedHealth Group Inc., Humana Inc. and WellPoint Inc. to detect fraudulent billing practices, escalating a campaign against fraud blamed for draining public and private coffers.

Some of the industry’s biggest names are teaming with the federal government in the information-sharing initiative, whose key objective will be to swap data about swindlers’ preferred billing codes and regions, potentially allowing for pattern recognition and preemptive action to avert future losses.
