Law360, New York (July 26, 2012, 7:37 PM ET) -- The Massachusetts Senate on Thursday approved legislation aimed at curbing foreclosures, but not before dropping a provision that would have required lenders and special servicers into mediation with troubled homeowners.
The legislation, crafted largely by Martha Coakley, the state's anti-foreclosure crusading attorney general, prohibits lenders from foreclosing on properties without proper documentation and includes provisions to create a task force to study the effectiveness of mediation programs.
