Verizon’s $4B Spectrum Plan Draws Fire From Senators

Law360, New York (July 31, 2012, 1:05 PM EDT) -- U.S. senators from Maryland are concerned Verizon Wireless' plan to spend $3.9 billion on spectrum purchasing deals with cable companies may negatively impact competition, consumers and jobs, according to letters released Monday.

Democrats Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin last week urged the Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice to carefully consider the effects of approving the proposed deal, particularly in light of how it could reduce Verizon’s incentive to invest in its all-fiber FiOS network, an alternative to many cable Internet options....
