Pa. High Court Justice Sheds 2 Charges In Corruption Case

Law360, New York (August 1, 2012, 6:34 PM EDT) -- Suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin notched a victory Tuesday as a state court judge dismissed two out of nine criminal charges lodged against her for allegedly ordering her publicly funded staff to work on her 2003 and 2009 political campaigns.

At a preliminary hearing Tuesday, Judge James J. Hanley Jr. of Pittsburgh Municipal Court tossed out two misdemeanor charges of official oppression and criminal solicitation against the justice, who was elected to Pennsylvania’s highest court in 2009.
