GOP Declares War On Health Insurance Exchange Subsidies

Law360, New York (August 1, 2012, 1:49 PM EDT) -- A resolution introduced Tuesday in the U.S. Senate would block subsidies for consumers shopping on health insurance exchanges created by the federal government, the latest effort by Republicans to roll back the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The proposal from Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., would overturn an IRS rule that allows tax credits for customers on any type of exchange — a policy GOP lawmakers and activists have set their sights on after the law survived a challenge at the U.S. Supreme Court.
