Law360, New York (August 02, 2012, 4:32 PM ET) -- Two U.S. congressmen unveiled bipartisan legislation on Wednesday intended to stop so-called “patent trolls” from lodging meritless suits, which cost U.S. technology companies more than $29 billion, by forcing the loser to pay litigation costs.
Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., along with co-sponsor Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, introduced HR 6245, the Saving High-Tech Innovators from Egregious Legal Disputes Act, or Shield Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives, saying the bill would protect American technology companies from frivolous lawsuits.
