Norway Probes Facebook's Facial Recognition Technology

Law360, New York (August 2, 2012, 7:14 PM EDT) -- A Norwegian Data Protection Agency investigation into privacy issues arising from Facebook Inc.'s facial recognition technology has been referred to the Irish privacy regulators that serve as the company's supervisory authority in Europe, a Facebook spokesman confirmed Thursday.

The Office of the Irish Data Protection Commissioner will work with the Norwegians on the probe, which is intended to address concerns over a Facebook program that can automatically identify the names of people in photos posted to the popular social media website.
