CFPB Probing AIG, Others Over Mortgage Insurance Deals

Law360, New York (August 3, 2012, 7:36 PM EDT) -- Eyeing potentially illegal collusion between lenders and mortgage insurance companies, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has opened an investigation into American International Group Inc., MGIC Investment Corp. and Genworth Financial Inc., according to regulatory filings the companies submitted this week.

Each corporation reported in paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it had recently received a civil investigative demand in which the agency requested documents and answers to various questions as it searches for possible violations of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act....
