US Sues PG&E, Quanta Services Over 2004 Forest Fire

Law360, New York (August 06, 2012, 1:20 PM ET) -- The U.S. government on Friday said utility company Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and its contractor Quanta Services Inc. are liable for the costs of a 2004 California forest fire allegedly ignited by a Quanta subsidiary employee’s cigarette.

Quanta subsidiary VCS Sub Inc., which does business as Provco, was hired by PG&E to remove or trim hazard trees that encroach or potentially encroach power lines as part of routine maintenance in the Eldorado National Forest in Amador County, Calif., according to a complaint filed in California...
