HHS Slipping On Safe Injection Oversight, GAO Finds

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 5:02 PM EDT) -- Federal agencies must resume their oversight of outpatient clinics' injection practices in order to prevent outbreaks of blood-borne infections like hepatitis B and C, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a report released Friday.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had been making progress in keeping an eye on certain clinics, collecting extensive data in 2010 and 2011, which will be used to evaluate progress on safe injections.
