Abertis, Brookfield Partner In $1.7B Deal For Brazil Toll Roads

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 8:44 PM EDT) -- Abertis Infraestructuras SA has teamed with investor Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP on a $1.7 billion mostly stock deal that gives the Spanish toll road giant control of concessions for more than 1,988 miles of Brazilian motorways, the parties announced Monday.

An Abertis-Brookfield joint venture on Friday plunked down approximately $1.1 billion in Abertis stock and some cash, and assumed €504 million (US$625 million) worth of liabilities from a Brazilian shell company that holds a 60 percent stake in smaller competitor Obrascon Huarte Lain Brasil SA.
