Judge Boots Autism Libel Case Against UK Medical Journal

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 5:54 PM EDT) -- A Texas judge on Friday inoculated the British Medical Journal from a libel complaint over its reports criticizing the controversial research of a doctor who linked autism to routine vaccinations, saying the court has no authority to hear the case.

The single-page order threw out the case on jurisdictional grounds and didn’t address defenses raised by the journal and two staffers who wanted Andrew Wakefield’s allegations dismissed under the Lone Star State’s law forbidding strategic lawsuits against public participation.
