9th Circ. Won't Cancel Hawaiian Conference

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 11:07 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Friday admitted it probably should have chosen a different site for its annual conference in Maui, Hawaii, later this month, but refused to call off the event, citing hefty cancellation fees.

In a letter to Sens. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, both of whom have criticized the expense of the upcoming convention, Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Alex Kozinski said that canceling the Aug. 13-16 conference would result in huge penalties on guaranteed hotel rooms and nonrefundable airline tickets.
