WesternGeco Awarded $106M In Oil Exploration Patent Row

Law360, New York (August 17, 2012, 2:11 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal jury on Thursday found Ion Geophysical Corp. had willfully infringed patents held by WesternGeco LLC, a subsidiary of oil field services provider Schlumberger Ltd., and awarded WesternGeco nearly $106 million in damages.

The jury found that Ion infringed four patents owned by WesternGeco — a company that conducts seismic surveying for oil and gas reservoirs below the seabed — that cover methods and technology for streamer control systems used in marine oil exploration.
