Amazon.com Countersues Cendant In Dispute Over Online Business Method Patents

Law360, New York (July 17, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a counterattack in the long-simmering patent dispute between the two online retailing giants, Amazon.com has sued Cendant for allegedly infringing four patents covering electronic commerce at the rival’s Orbitz, Avis and other websites.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle, accuses Cendant of infringing patents for a customer referral system as well as a method for transmitting a list of credit card numbers over an unsecured network, among other things.
