Grad Student Loses Fight Over File-Sharing Penalty

Law360, New York (August 24, 2012, 3:21 PM EDT) -- A Massachusetts federal judge handed Sony BMG Music Entertainment and several other record labels a win Thursday, upholding a $675,000 damages award against a man for illegally downloading 30 songs after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case earlier this year.

U.S. District Judge Rya W. Zobel ruled to let stand the jury verdict and $22,500 per song damages award handed down in December 2009, striking Joel Tenenbaum's briefs seeking to reduce the damages, with the option for a new trial.
