Purdue Sues Actavis Over Patent For Generic Sleep Drug

Law360, New York (August 24, 2012, 2:25 PM EDT) -- Purdue Pharmaceutical Products LP hit generics giant Actavis Inc. with a patent infringement suit in New Jersey federal court Thursday, trying to block Actavis from marketing its own version of the sleep aid Intermezzo.

Purdue and Transcept Pharmaceuticals Inc. accused Actavis Elizabeth LLC of infringing its patent for Intermezzo by filing an abbreviated new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for sublingual tablets of zolpidem tartrate, the active drug in the insomnia treatment.
